Pleasure & Business

Some people say that, if you want to start your business, start with something you enjoy to do. That way, you will have the passion required to overcome failure, and become success. Is it always true?

I enjoy doing scuba diving. Perhaps, if someone would pay, I would be doing it everyday :D . So, should I pursue to become a dive guide, or maybe instructor?

I have spoken with fellow scuba diver, instructor and dive guide. They all confirm of what I see of becoming a profesional diver: you are responsible for other people. As a dive guide, you must make sure that everyone in the group is counted, before and after a dive. You must watch your group underwater, to make sure that they are safely conducting the dive.

Being an Instructor is even worse. Part of the job is teaching new diver some new skill. Not that I don’t want to dive with a new diver, but, it will be more fun if you have a good buddy. And you also responsible to the safety of your student.

So…. can I make money from diving? Yes…. but I don’t think I have the passion for the job :D . I guess I gonna keep it as a pleasure activity.

Personal Benefit

The more I give it some thought, the more I believe the reason of everybody’s action: Personal Benefit. Yep, few days of chit-chat with my friends, leads me to the conclusion that, the primary reason behinds anybody’s action is: what is in it for me? The police, in their search of the motif of crime, always think about the motif, what is in it for the suspect?

So, if every person is for themself, what make them different, aside from personal goal, etc? I found this when running in the Gym last night:

1. Greedy person… always benefit him/herself, even at the cost of someone else.

2. Ignorant person…. as long as it doesn’t cost them anything, fine with then

What is Left…. Memory

“You still haven’t forget her”, my friend said to me tonight. “Why”, I asked, with a little surprise. He just know that I broke up with my girl, and I didn’t give much answer when he asked for the reason. So, I’m quite surprise that she can say that just from my simple answer. “Your tone, and the way you spoke of the reason shows that you still not over it”, he answered.

Maybe he is right. Maybe I am in a denial stage. maybe I’m denying that I’m still expecting her, that I still haven’t forget her entirely. Maybe I still have the memory of how fun it was with her. Her idealism, spirit of trying new things… things that I really miss for the last few months. The memory of how fun it was, wating for 11pm to call her, exchange stories, waiting for the train to meet her, waiting for her email to come, write to her. To spent hours in front of the TV, which we never watch, or hours in the kitchen to prepare our dinner. Some stupid things we did with our cooks, wrong cheese, wrong mix, wrong cut….

Ah….. like I said….. it was a fun 5 years, a time well spent with no regret. Life goes on, the clock will keep ticking, but sweet memories will always be in your heart, and yet to come…

Criticism

Few days ago… one of our friends started a new website. He posted his new website, with confident, to the public forum. When I give it a visit, it was a total mess. Even I could at least point several mistakes, stretched picture, too many pictures, uninteresting writing styles, wrong usage of pictures, etc…, and I consider myself as newbie :D .

Not sure how many people has give him some inputs, way to enhance his web pages. Nevertheless, he seems haven’t done substantial changes…. and still confidently and stubbornly publish the URL, asking people to fill in the guestbook. What happen next is, people, pissed of by the way he publish his website, begin to spam the website. They start fill in some inappropriate critics (or should I say… another spam) to the guest book. Some even making jokes of other people they hate.

Ah…. I know that those people are educated, have a good job, and very respected among the community. I also know that the person has done something wrong, spamming the public forum to promote his website. But does it justify our action, to take revenge? Spamming his website with bad words? What has he done to us, other than causing a small nuisance? Even then, he has got his punishment, being banned from the public forum.

PS: Despite of the bad design, I see that he has some dedication here, at least in regular wesite update. Hopefully this is followed by his willing to learn, and passion.
